GCE Point Releases

Today is a bit lower key than the previous weeks of Orktober 2025 because we're just dealing with point releases. The first of these is the scenario book which has been laid out anew for our new system. The stuff about wounding hits has been moved to other GCE books now so that's been pruned out. Oh and Andrew Meijer's lovely cover art has had the title text removed from it to match the other recent GCE book covers.

If you're not sure what GCE is - head over to the GCE page for answers.

Changelog:

Version 1.01 - October 2025

  • Removed wounding experience section (moved to GCE Core Rules)

The second release is a minor update to the GCE Campaign Book. We know, we know, a new version released a few weeks ago!

Well there was a silly typo that Da Kommittee had to fix and then a mini that they wanted to include got finished... ...then Gornn65 on YakTribe pointed out some issues with the Serious Injuries section. Before you know it there's a version 1.21!

This one is even more trivial. Whilst reading one of the appendices Flamekebab noticed that they'd been brought over from the Digga faction pack and no one had spotted that it should say "Ork vehicles" rather than "Digga vehicles".

Well if we're doing point releases, why not do this one too, eh?

Changelog:

Version 1.32 - October 2025

  • Fixed a typo in the vehicle capacities appendix

16 Years

Would you believe it, tUGS is sixteen years old today.

To mark the occasion we're doing something radical - moving from WordPress.

Recent years have seen various attempts to hack the site and it's getting rather tedious, so today we're doing something a little crazy. We're moving the entire site to Zola.

The site's theme has been ported over, all the content checked, and whilst there'll be some optional links that could do with fixing (usually decorative images in posts that linked to larger versions), we're mostly good to go.

The plan wasn't even to launch today - we just happened to check the calendar and see that today happens to be our birthday. Seems too good an opportunity to miss, really!

The move means that commenting functionality is going away but given that we've had a single non-spam comment this year (and a whopping three last year!), that's probably not a big loss for most readers.

On the plus side this has also given us a chance to fix up some elements of the theme that have been broken for years. Pagination is going to work, for a start! The various categories now give lists of posts rather than another blog view too, which is a massive improvement. In general our content is just easier to access.

We're fairly sure there's no canonical mentions of cake in official fiction related to Orks, so instead how about the next round of fungus beer is on us?

Four weeks, four GCE releases. Don't say we don't spoil you!

Today we publish the latest edition of the GCE Core Rules. This book covers what happens during games (rather than the various mechanics between games) and covers the role of the GW Gorkamorka book "Da Roolz".

This core rules update addresses a number of bugs found since the last release (two and a half years ago). There's some clarification of various sequences (close combat, shooting, that sort of thing), some tweaks to Pilin' On, and some rules have been added to allow warriors to jump in various ways (such as from a ledge into hand-to-hand combat).

Also the GCE Kommittee have finally folded in the glossary that was started ages ago. Matthew Bester put in a hell of a lot of work and it's now in the back of this book. Nicely done!

Changelog:

Version 1.4 - October 2025

  • Bottlin’ Out bug is scenario specific. Recommend making it a feature of specific scenarios.
  • Getting On and Off reworked to account for ORB allowing moving Vehicles to “drop off” Boyz while moving along.
  • Attacking Stationary Vehicles and Gates patched with WS only.
  • Tidied up the bike/small Vehicle wording a bit
  • Tidied up the Vehicle thrusting rules
  • Clarified template weapon hits on Crew locations
  • Removed mention of Pinning for Drivers
  • Pruned Stikkbombz in close combat rules - they’re in the faction packs!
  • A bit more weapon genericization (Skorchas don’t need to have their own ammo roll section!)
  • Closed zero wound loophole (affects experience for wounding hits)
  • Added rules for tents
  • Added dimensions for small and large teardrop templates
  • Drivers now immune to Pinning
  • Tweaked the scattering rules to be closer to ORB
  • Refined description of Follow Up moves
  • Glossary capitalisation overhaul
  • Boarding Actions tidied up. Split between relevant Movement, Shooting and Close Combat sections. Could exist as standalone section if needed.
  • Stationary, Out of Control, and Unopposed Vehicles rewritten.
  • Added Order of Operations to Movement and clarified targets for charging
  • Buffed Overwatch to give +1 to hit rather than -1
  • Pilin’ On only works for a single round (so users can’t form one invincible defender that faces all attackers)
  • Clarified combat sequences for shooting, hand-to-hand, and vehicles.
  • Added jumping across gaps/down drops and fleshed out falling mechanics

Orktober rolls on and we've got a big update to the GCE Campaign Book!

This book provides the baseline for how the stuff between games work as well as some fun stuff for your campaigns. Special Characters have been added although you might wonder about why they've not got the same names as in GW's rules - fun fact: duplicate characters are allowed in a Gorkamorka campaign!

Two players could have Dregmek Blitzkart fighting against each other. This isn't just a Gorkamorka thing either - Necromunda and Mordheim have this quirk too. The GCE Kommittee decided that the named special characters should be specific instances of a generic type instead - which also means that players won't have the strange situation of setting a campaign on Tyrvaxar IV rather than Angelis and yet still have Nazgrub Wurrzag wandering about nicking stuff...

Da Kommittee have also pulled in Depiff's rules for various critters (Sumfink In Da Sand) as well as some additional campaign advice to help players understand what they're getting themselves into.

Lastly the cover art - you'd be forgiven for thinking it's AI generated, given its mind-melting complexity - but nope, it's all human toil!

You might have spotted some of David Prentice's work in the recent Gorker & Morker faction pack update but this time he's got the whole cover (can't let Andrew Meijers grab all the cover spots!). No, we don't know how he does it either, but it's zoggin' cool, ain't it?

Changelog:

Version 1.2 - October 2025

  • Added missing value for scrap counters
  • Clarified arm and leg Serious Injuries
  • Fixed issue with Loota skill as it relates to factions with unusual income/profit calculations
  • Added special characters
  • Added bestiary
  • Added advice for running a campaign

It's the second week of Orktober and yet this release isn't about Orks. Heresy! No, wait, that's something else again...

We've previously published the Digga and Rebel Grot faction packs and today we bring the Digganob trifecta to a close with the release of the GCE Mutie faction pack.

There are no major changes from the 1998 rules but this does mean that GCE has now reached feature parity with Gorkamorka, which is kinda cool. Oh and this book is loaded with artwork from Andrew Meijers, including the rather mournful cover art. It's a hard life being a mutant on a dead planet!
