Sumfink In Da Sand – Beasties of the desert

Filed under: Ere Be Stuff, Experimental, House Rules

steelgulpaYou may have noticed assorted non-Ork critters mentioned in various pieces of Gorkamorka background. Casually mentioned in many a box-out, these creatures raise all sorts of questions. Just what is a Whip Scorpion, and why is it so terrifying? Why do Rebel Grots seem to have a monopoly on Buzzer Squigs? What do Steel Gulpers eat?

So today we present some rules written by tUGS’ own Depiff (Ross Graham). Sumfink In Da Sand has all the details needed for incorporating the terrifying beasts of the desert into your games of Gorkamorka. These can be added as “environmental hazards” to any scenario, and come complete with behavioural rules, so you can even run a mob against them solo, should you choose.

Venturing into the desert is not for the faint-hearted, and we make no guarantees about the safety of your Boyz when encountering these horrific beasties!

An amazing work! Both in content and presentation. Thanks! 🙂

Maybe I’m asking too much, but could you share the template used in the document, please?

  2. Flamekebab Says:

    So glad you like it!

The template is going to be released in a little while. We’re going to release a few more things using it first to ensure we’re not overlooking anything obvious.

The other thing being that when we do release it there’s going to have to be a usage guide with it to clarify how it works. It’s not just a Microsoft Word template! XD

  3. Rodrigo Garcia Carmona Says:

Yeah, I was picturing an Indesign template. Although maybe you use Scribus or Quark Xpress. 😉

Any way, a great job. The illos also look very professional. It’s amazing what you’re doing for this game.

Ah, you’re better informed than most then!
We use Scribus for most of our documents to ensure that our templates and the like can easily be worked on by anyone. We also would love to eventually get a nicely printed book done one day when all of the components of Ere Be Stuff are done.

We planned on releasing the old template but I was never happy enough with it. We ditched most of my art and had Jenny redo parts of it – the result is v.4 that you see in this document.

I’m really glad you like the artwork – you can find more of Clayton’s stuff on his DeviantArt page.

I’m also pleased that you like what we’re doing. Gorkamorka is such a fun game but it gets forgotten by most it seems. It deserves some love!

    Clayton’s work is fantastic!

It’s good to know that you’re planning to release all kuztom material in PDF form with the new template. I’ll probably print it thorugh Lulu, to have a proper hard copy. 🙂

Great article. Now we need someone to make models of the critters featured. I’d love to see some scratch-builds and conversions.

  7. Depiff Says:

Working on it! (Whip Scorpion being made out of Tyranid plastic Ravenor sprue with Daemonette claws). I’d like to see other ideas though.

  8. Gorkamunda Says:

Did you ever release the template for these rules?

  9. Flamekebab Says:

Not yet, but we’ve not forgotten either. There’s a lot of things we’ve yet to do, sadly. Time is our friend when it comes to Gorkamorka, thankfully.
